Jets' Calvin Pace suspended for PEDs

The NFL announced today that Jets linebacker Calvin Pace, a prized free agent acquisition last year, has been suspended without pay for the first four games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances. Pace's suspension begins Sept. 5. He is eligible to return to the Jets' active roster Oct. 5 following the team's Oct. 4 game against the New Orleans Saints.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have traded wide receiver Dennis Northcutt to the Detroit Lions in exchange for safety Gerald Alexander, according to multiple sources. Northcutt was informed during the week he was going to be traded. The Lions showed interest but didn't want to give up a draft choice. Once they talked to the Jaguars, the Lions decided to offer Alexander in a straight player-for-player deal.

Jets awarded CB Barksdale off waivers

The New York Jets have been awarded CB Rashad Barksdale off waivers from the New York Giants. The announcement was made by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum. The 6'0", 208-pound Barksdale, who played collegiately at Albany, originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round selection (201st overall) by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2007 NFL Draft and was released on Sept. 1, 2007.
