Falcons veteran wide receiver Joe Horn said Monday that he would like to be traded instead of remaining with the team as a "just-in-case guy."
"I want to win a Super Bowl and I want to win a Super Bowl here in Atlanta, but I don't think I can help this team win a Super Bowl sitting on the bench, waiting for third down," Horn said.
Horn said he had not approached the team yet about his desire to be dealt but that him and/or his agent would in the near future.
When told of Horn's remarks, general manager Thomas Dimitroff said: "He is still part of our team and we still see a future for him here." Source: ajc.com
Dallas Cowboys safety Roy Williams has doubts about whether he fits into Coach Wade Phillips' scheme and has been isolating himself from his teammates, defensive end Greg Ellis said Thursday.
Ellis told Sirius NFL Radio that Williams' concerns about his place in Phillips' version of the 3-4 defense surfaced last summer at training camp in San Antonio. "He said, Greg, this defense does not fit me. I don't fit in well with this defense at all,' " the Dallas Morning News' Web site quoted Ellis as saying. "So when he told me that, I was like, Well, man, it's still new. Get used to it, and it'll probably be fine for you.' And, obviously, I think it came to be true. Just like he said, he doesn't fit what's going on here in Dallas right now.' "
Ellis expressed optimism that Williams will feel more comfortable this season, while also suggesting the Cowboys could trade the former Oklahoma star. Source: mysanantonio.com
Change isn't always good
Williams' role in the defense diminished last season as Phillips implemented multiple sub-packages to create better matchups in the secondary. Williams is expected to primarily play on first and second down this season because of his coverage limitations. His impact has decreased in the past few years along with his trademark game-changing hits.
The Saints completed their visit with free-agent tailback Shaun Alexander on Wednesday, but he returned home to Seattle without a contract offer. It's unclear how serious the interest is from either side. Alexander, who was released by the Seahawks last month, has just started to test the market. He visited Cincinnati on Sunday and Monday before flying to New Orleans.
Alexander's agent, Jim Steiner, said the former league MVP and three-time Pro Bowl player has not set a timetable for choosing a team. "It all depends on how he feels about the team, the prospects of the team winning a championship, and what his role will be," Steiner said. Other teams have shown interest, but no other visits have been scheduled, he said. Source: nola.com
