Broncos running back LenDale White out for season 9/2/2010 8:52:00 PM
Denver Broncos running back LenDale White has left the team's final preseason game with an injured ankle. Update: White is out for the 2010 season with ruptured Achilles tendon.
White was down for a while and walked off the field gingerly in the second quarter of Denver's game in Minnesota after getting hurt on a nine-yard run. The Broncos said his return was doubtful.

The Broncos have basically told White he's on a one-strike-and-you're-out plan and has to stay on the straight and narrow to remain on the roster. White's career with the Tennessee Titans ended after he struggled with his weight, clashed with his position coach and had his work ethic publicly questioned.

Broncos Sign LenDale White 8/8/2010 5:18:00 PM
Former local schoolboy hero LenDale White has come home again.
The Broncos today signed White, the former Denver South and Chatfield High School star who played his college ball at the University of Southern California, and in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans.
To make room for White, the Broncos waived veteran running back Kolby Smith.

The Titans unloaded disgruntled running back LenDale White on Saturday, trading him to the Seahawks along with defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson. White was a second-round pick by the Titans in 2006, but he disappeared behind running back Chris Johnson last season, rushing for just 222 yards and two touchdowns.

The agent for Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White said his client is eager to prove himself this season, regardless of whether or not he is in a contract year. Christopher Brantley, who represents White, acknowledges that certainly White wants to do well as he enters the final year of his rookie contract, but said White's motivation stems more from wanting to prove his professionalism than anything else. "Everybody in that final year gears up to put their best foot forward, but whether it's a contract year or not, he's been getting a lot of flack about his weight and his work ethic, and he just wants to set the record straight on all that," Brantley said. "He wants to show that he's a solid professional and a good back in the NFL, and when he's been given the opportunity, he produces."

White, who is listed at 235 pounds on the team's website, has had plenty of issues with weight in the past, as two years ago his weight was near 270 pounds at the start of the off-season program. Titans running back LenDale White increased his workload during Tuesdays minicamp at Baptist Sports Park, and said hes pain-free for the first time in a while. White had athroscopic knee surgery in January, and said he played the entire 2007 season with a torn meniscus after injuring it in the preseason.

Titans RB LenDale White said he's "anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds from where I need to be.'' He played in the 245-pound range last season and said he wanted to come to training camp around 230 or 235. "It is way better (than last offseason),'' White said. "I want people to keep speculating and keep guessing what I (weigh) because it is great talk. So I am not going to tell people what I weigh, I just want people to speculate.''

Last offseason, White's weight became an issue. He put on about 20 pounds and struggled to get in better shape when the team began its offseason workout program. White played in the 245-pound range this season and said he wants to come to training camp next year around 230 or 235. "I am excited about where he is going to go if he is committed to getting better,'' Titans running backs coach Sherman Smith said. "Physically, is he going to commit himself into getting in top-notch condition?''

Running back LenDale White was back with the team after being excused the past two days of practice because of the death of his grandmother. He didn't practice Friday because of a sore knee, but is expected to start after running for 1,110 yards. "He's coming around," Fisher said. "He'll get some exercise. His knee is sore. He'll get some exercise, we'll get him stretched out, and we'll have him mentally ready to play."

Running back LenDale White has an ugly line of stitches on the middle finger on his right hand, which remained swollen Wednesday. White, injured in Sunday's win over the Texans, squeezed a rubber ball to build up strength in the hand and said he expects to practice today or Friday and play Sunday against the Chargers. Although the injury could make holding the ball securely more difficult, White said he's fine.
